Wine Barrel, Heidelberg Castle, Germany
My husband who makes his own wine was delighted by the barrel building! It houses a 2-story wine barrel which holds 58,000 gallons and was used to store the tithe wine. It is so large a dance floor was built across the top. There was pipe from the barrel to the king’s feast hall. The wine cellar is guarded by a statue of the former court jester, Clemens Perkeo who was renowned for his prodigious wine consumption.
