Marienkirche (Church of Mary), Lubeck, Germany
One of the first churches built in French Gothic style but made out of brick, the Marienkirche strongly influenced church design in the Baltic region. The interior has the highest vaulted brick ceiling in the world (40 m/131 ft) which dominates the other interior features. The Briefkapelle, the southwestern side chapel built in 1310, is one of the earliest examples of star vaulting in Europe.
